This was a great bit of fun I made up for a Mad Max inspired KITH (knife in a hat )competition on the British Blades knife forum .

I wanted to try and find something that was so out of place in the post apocalyptic Australian outback and thought this Italian made aluminum ice climbers axe fitted the bill as a post apocalyptic multi tool axe .

After stripping off the original purple rubber handle I wrapped the haft in black self amalgamating tape which gives for great grip .

The original ice axe head was annealed , then ground thin at the edge before heat treating and the hammer end was file worked for effect .

Searching around the workshop I found some suitable saw blade steel to make up a few different heads that can easily be bolted on as replacements depending on the  task at hand  .

I made up a crash axe using tungsten carbide teeth , a double sided lightweight spear point head for CQB work and a dedicated wood chopping axe head and any combination can be made up from using the 5 different heads .
